Wildfires in Utah

Utah is also prone to wildfires, particularly during the summer months when temperatures are high, humidity is low, and winds are strong. Some of the major wildfires that have occurred in Utah in recent years include:

  1. Brian Head Fire (2017): This fire burned over 71,000 acres of forested land and destroyed 13 homes and 8 outbuildings. It was caused by a human-caused ignition and was one of the largest wildfires in Utah's history.

  2. Dollar Ridge Fire (2018): This fire burned over 60,000 acres and destroyed 74 structures, including homes and cabins. It was also caused by a human-caused ignition and was the largest wildfire in Utah in 2018.

  3. Bald Mountain Fire (2018): This fire burned over 18,000 acres of forested land and destroyed several structures, including cabins and outbuildings. It was caused by lightning strikes.

  4. Pole Creek and Bald Mountain Fires (2018): These fires burned over 120,000 acres of forested land and destroyed several structures, including cabins and homes. They were caused by lightning strikes and were the largest wildfires in Utah in 2018.

Like many other states, Utah has implemented measures to prevent and respond to wildfires, including prescribed burning, fuel reduction projects, and public education campaigns. The state also has a wildfire suppression system in place to quickly respond to and contain wildfires.
